On its Aug. 27 release date, anyone who strolls into one of Baskin Robbins' 17 ice cream parlors in Sydney or eight stores in Melbourne will be rewarded with a free "cotton candy" ice cream should they mention the American pop singer's name. Conditions apply for the "Katy Perry Day" treat, notes a statement issued today by EMI.
Perry touches down in Australia this week to play a one-off show for Debit MasterCard users on Thursday (Aug. 12) at Melbourne's Plaza Ballroom, and she will back it up with a performance the following day on free-to-air Channel 7's "Sunrise" breakfast show.
The American pop singer, whose real name is Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, has become a mainstream star in Australia, scoring a triple-platinum (210,000) No. 1 hit in 2008 on the ARIA singles chart with "I Kissed A Girl" and winning best newcomer at the MTV Australia Awards. Her triple-platinum certified follow-up "Hot N Cold" reached No. 4 on the official Australian singles chart, and featured in the opening and closing titles for the first two seasons of Network Ten's high-rating reality TV program "MasterChef."
