Recovery, the seventh studio album from rapper Eminem, fought off tough competition from Night Work, the third studio album from Scissor Sisters, which came in as a new entry at number two.
This was followed by Alicia Keys at number three with The Element of Freedom, Plan B with The Defamation of Strickland Banks at four and Oasis at five with Time Flies...1994-2009.
Aside from Scissor Sisters, the only other new entry into the UK Top 40 album chart came from Stevie Wonder at 16 with The Definitive Collection, which leapt from number 57. The huge rise was almost certainly due to his Sunday night headline performance at Glastonbury Festival. Gorillaz, who headlined the festival Friday night, saw their album Plastic Beach jump from 24 to number 12, while Saturday night headliners Muse climbed from 62 to 13 with their album The Resistance.
Katy Perry was a non-mover at the top of the singles chart with California Gurls featuring Snoop Dog. This was followed by B.o.B, who leapt ten places to chart at number two with Airplanes featuring Hayley Williams, lead singer from US punk band Paramore.Kylie Minogue moved up three to chart at number three with her single All The Lovers, while Enrique Iglesias was a new entry at number four with I Like It featuring Pitbull. K'naan fell three places to complete the top five with Wavin' Flag.
